Just Breathe....

Just breathe and the rest will follow.

Here's something to consider as the yoga practice begins to unfold.

Yoga is a mindful experience, that's suitable for everyone, it can form a mindful connection between breath, body and mind. Finding and exploring the connection helps to carry practitioners through the practice. Taking time to explore each posture and allowing the body to slowly move into the next posture encourages the practice to cement on a deep level.

Considering and feeling how the breath flows within the body as each posture is held, turns shapes into yoga postures. Being deeply connected as the body is safely moved into different postures helps to turn a series of postures into a practice.

Through yoga the body and mind connect with each other on a deep level. If a sensation is experienced physically, the mind can make the decision to relax or readjust. Allowing the practice to unfold intuitively deepens the practice. It might take time to let go of the illusion that the body needs to be flexible to practise yoga, however, all you need to be able to do is breathe. If you can breathe the rest will follow.

It is not about how deep you can move into a posture, it is more about how the posture feels.

Next time you roll out your yoga mat, take a moment to explore each posture. tune into the body and allow the practice to evolve. Of course if your body tells you to move fast then that is okay too, take a moment to consider how the breath moves the body as you flow.

I wanted to write this article to let those who are new to yoga know, that yoga is not all about moving deeply into a pose, it is not about possessing a flexible body, there is so much more to the practice. I am asked all the time - "will I be okay I'm not flexible?" Flexibility is not a prerequisite for yoga. All anyone needs to do is breathe. Try a Yoga 2 Hear Gentle or Beginners Yoga Class today, the classes are achievable and suitable for complete beginners.
