How Long does it Take to Become a Yoga Teacher?
This is one of those questions that is asked over and over again. Becoming a Yoga Instructor takes time. Once a yoga teacher training course is completed, this is usually just the start of the journey. Although some yoga teacher training courses might be relatively short in duration and other yoga teacher training courses might take years to complete, the journey is ongoing.
Yoga teachers should always be open to learning. This includes learning from their students as well as deepening and developing their understanding and different aspects of the practice from other Yoga Instructors. It is important that all potential yoga teachers explore and work to develop a deep understanding of the practice. This will vary from yoga teacher to yoga teacher. Some yoga teachers will approach their training from a mindful perspective. Others might approach yoga from a more physical perspective. Those that are more physically aware might need to spend a little more time exploring the internal sensations that the practice brings, where as those that are more meditative might need to spend a little more time working on the anatomy and physiology of the practice. Every one is different and every yoga teacher will have different strengths and varied understanding of the practice.
One of the most important elements of teaching yoga is that yoga teachers will want to keep learning and growing. It is also important that they want to share the practise for the greater good of others. Yoga teachers will introduce others to different techniques and practices to help those people find practices that are most beneficial and supportive for them. The journey is continuous, the practice provides a lifelong path of exploring and learning.
“Teaching is not an imposition of the teacher’s will over that of the pupil, not at all. Teaching starts with freedom and ends with freedom.” - Vanda Scaravelli
When deciding which yoga teacher training course is right for you, consider your own life and what is achievable for you and how others might be influenced by your decision. There are plenty of immersive yoga instructor courses, but for those that have other commitments this is not always affordable or practical. This is why Yoga 2 Hear created their Diploma in Teaching Yoga, this course provides all the knowledge and information to become a compassionate, understanding yoga teacher who is able to teach with integrity and awareness. This course has taken years to create and format to ensure that the Yoga 2 Hear Diploma in Teaching Yoga offers an informative self-paced alternative, which is both progressive and achievable, providing the opportunity to retrain and launch a new career as a yoga teacher without requiring time away from existing commitments.
In life, it is not always possible to retrain for a new career especially if that requires time away from family or work, Yoga 2 Hear wanted to make sure they provided the opportunity for all those that need or prefer to study at home, in their own time, to still be able to become qualified teachers of yoga.
In answer to the question how long does it take to become a yoga teacher? It is different for each person, but one thing to remember is that the learning never stops. Yoga teachers are always students, there is always more to explore, being a yoga teacher is a never ending journey.
“The art of teaching is clarity and the art of learning is to listen.” - Vanda Scaravelli
