Vajrasana - Thunderbolt Pose
vahj-RAH-sah-na.
Vajra = thunderbolt or diamond.
Asana = steady pose
When combined with slow a yogic breathing technique this posture will help to clear and calm the mind. It also aids digestion, improves posture and is a perfect pose for meditation or pranayama.
How to Perform Vajrasana
This posture is performed kneeling with a straight spine. The big toes are together and the heels and knees are slightly apart. Lightly rest the palms or the backs of the hands onto the thighs. Remain in this posture for five minutes breathing slowly through the nose whilst focussing on drawing up the lower abdominal muscles and maintaining a straight spine.
This posture is not suitable for those that suffer from knee pain, if this is the case sit with a straight spine and the legs extended, otherwise known as dandasana (the staff).
