Performing a few basic yoga techniques regularly will prepare body and mind and enhance your performance. Yoga can help you reach your full potential.  

Yoga increases strength, agility, coordination, control, flexibility, balance and focus all of which could be necessary to help you reach you full potential at your chosen sport or physical activity. 

Strength – yoga postures help develop, increase and maintain muscular strength.  

Agility – yoga includes practises that flow through a series of postures moving in such a way will improve agility. 

Coordination – yoga postures will greatly improve coordination and enhance neurological pathways. 

Control – being able to move with control and awareness is a vital component of any yoga practice. 

Flexibility – held yoga postures help remove stress and tension in the body allowing the body to move freely with enhanced flexibility. 

Balance – yoga postures improve physical and emotional balance.  Not just the ability to stand on one leg.  Yoga helps to balance the right and left sides of the body, top and bottom and front and back. Yoga provides balance between intense physical exercise and relaxation it also provides a time for rest and recovery to take place. 

Focus – yoga enhances focus and concentration, removing mental clutter so that you do not become distracted by unnecessary thoughts.  This makes it possible to focus completely on your performance and reach your full potential in your chosen sport. 

Success Meditation   

Find a comfortable position, either sitting on your bottom on a chair or the floor with a straight spine or lying on your back. 

Breathe slowly in and out through your nose.  Work to fill your lungs with air from the bottom up and empty them from the top down.  Focus on your breath and notice how at the end of the inhalation there is a natural pause before the exhalation occurs and also how there is a natural pause at the end of the exhalation before the next inhalation happens. 

Notice the smooth steady flow of your breath and the natural pause and concentrate on the breath.  Notice how the body softens on an exhalation. 

Continue with this breathing technique until you feel centred and calm.   

Take your time to visualise the event, picture in your mind as many details as possible. Imagine yourself at the event picture your performance with your preferred outcome.  Hold this image as you breathe slowly in and out through your nose.  Continue with this technique and then allow the image to fade, keep hold of all good feelings that you experienced during this meditation.
