Ardha Chandrasana - The Half Moon PoseArdha Chandrasana – Half Moon by Sue Fuller

This posture will help strengthen the legs, improve overall balance and increase vitality.

Begin standing in the mountain (tadasana) making sure that your weight is distributed evenly through the soles of your feet.  Fold into a standing forward bend (uttanasana).  Lift your left leg behind so that it is level with your hips, flex the left foot and rotate the left leg 90 degrees to the left, so that the toes are pointing out to the side.  Move your right hand forward of your feet and to the right a little.  Now slowly extend your left arm up.  Look to the right foot, if your balance feels steady look up to your left hand. If you experience pulling in the back of the right leg soften the right knee or place your right hand on a yoga block.

Breathe slowly through your nose for ten or more complete breaths and then repeat on the other side.
